Regulatory documentation – such as licence applications (including safety reports: PSARs and FSARs), conceptual plans, pre-inspection documentation, construction plans and suitability assessments – must be prepared in accordance with the relevant requirements. We are also happy to help you with spare parts qualifications.
With our strong experience, we create licensing and qualification plans for projects and plant modifications. We identify the required documentation and tasks for each phase, plan their scheduling (which differs from that of other industries), and assess the order and methods of delivery. We implement modification and development projects at nuclear facilities from individual components to large-scale systems. We carry out preliminary studies, needs assessments, suitability assessments and construction plans. We draw up the necessary programs and plans for qualification for environmental conditions and create the necessary documentation in cooperation with our customers. We have solid expertise in projects related to I&C, electrical and mechanical engineering.
Platom has decades of experience in radioactive waste management in Finland and abroad. Our customers include nuclear facilities, research institutes and other industries. Waste management solutions are engineered case-by-case, taking safety aspects into account. Our service covers feasibility studies, engineering, preparation of specifications and procedures, personnel training, and system and equipment deliveries.

We independently verify the fulfilment of the design criteria of nuclear power plants in terms of process systems, automation and plant level in connection with plant modifications, periodic safety reviews and new build projects. In this way, we ensure that a high level of nuclear safety is met impartially and independently.
We simulate virtual plant models, which are used to produce safety analyses. We use the versatile APROS software, which also integrates automation and control into the model, as well as various dynamic simulations. We also use the TRACE modeling program. Platom has expertise in the MELCOR program, which produces models and analyses for the assessment of severe reactor accidents. We also have expertise in radiation safety as well as probabilistic risk and safety analyses (PRA / PSA).
Platom’s people are experts of defense-in-depth safety, which forms the basis for the implementation of nuclear safety objectives for which independent safety functions on different layers are established. If one layer fails, the next one is activated and takes the plant to a controlled and eventually safe state.

In the early 1990s, we had the opportunity to participate in the Megatons to Megawatts Program, which aimed to safely disarm former Soviet nuclear warheads. As part of this program, we designed and delivered systems for transferring and sampling downblended Russian UF₆, enabling its use in the Western enrichment industry.
Since then, we have continued to serve the UF₆ enrichment sector with a wide range of solutions — from process feed systems to the sampling of final products. At Platom, over 30 years of experience in the field have given us a comprehensive understanding of UF₆-related systems and problem solving.
